The National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association, (CASA) is working to see that all children have that opportunity. Today, over 430,000 children in the United States are in foster care. Sometimes this means one child will have seven homes in three years. Sometimes this means a child has spent of hisher life waiting to see if they will be returned to biological parents. Sometimes the result is far worse. These are all children at risk. CASA volunteers are ordinary citizens who speak up for abused and neglected children in court. CASA volunteers thoroughly research a case and make a recommendation to the judge as to what is in the childs best interest. They stay with the case until it is resolved, making sure the child is safe and working to be sure the process is moving along as quickly as possible. CASA is an opportunity for the community to take responsibility for a solution; for one caring individual to truly make a difference in the life of a child. By helping to stabilize these childrens lives, CASA is taking an important step toward preventing violence and delinquency. For those who wish to Speak Up for a Child die Davis County CASA, three-quarte- rs Inc. will be conducting training sessions for CASA volunteers on Wednesdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23.
