Show EDITORIAL: fay The Best Man Vim During the recent city election elec-tion campaign, this newspaper remained neutral, figuring there were too many efficient men in the race, irrespective of party affiliation, to attempt endorsing a slate of candidates. With seven offices to be filled and a clear-cut clear-cut picture of qualifications unobtainable, un-obtainable, it would have been hazardous and difficult to draw a fine line of distinction between be-tween many nominees, who as far as one could tell, were equally competent, honest, and sincere. Then, too, how is one to make accurate selection m a city election campaign, when a minimum of issues are involved? in-volved? , . The school board election Is just as difficult to approach. On the one side there is Gordon Gor-don Harmston, incumbent, who has done a remarkable job during dur-ing his two years as a member of the school board. On the other oth-er side is E. L. Murphy, of Upalco, who has been active in eastern Duchesne county civic matters for a long time. Everi his critics must admit that Harmston has hustled; that he is still pushing the Union high school project to the limit, and was in the vanguard of the fight to put over the recent bond election. But Murphy has 16 ye teaching experience in the Salt Lake, Summit, and Duchesne school districts to his credit, He has beeri active in water matters as a director of the Dry Gulch Irrigation company board, and has shown a continued interest in all matters pertaining to the advancement of Duchesne county. coun-ty. Either would make a combe-tent combe-tent school board member. But -we think, if there is an edge at all, it must be conceded to Harmston not because he is a resident of Roosevelt; but because of his unfailing1 efforts to better scholastic conditions, throughout the county. His past ! efforts and accomplishments merit consideration when the voters go to the polls. Dec. 7. |
