Show Ban On Bill Boards From many sections of the country coun-try come further reports of official action against the billboard nuisance, which has done more to destroy thy natural beauty of the countryside than any other agency devised by man. A vigorous campaign against billboards bill-boards is being waged by several national organizations, the women's clubs being particularly active in the movement. They are in many instances appealing to the advertisers direct, showing them that a billboard which defaces the scenery makes ill-will instead of friends for the firm resorting to this form of publicity. ' In Georgia the highway board recently recent-ly adopted a resolution providing "that all advertising signs be prohibited on the rights of way, and that in every practicable way the bcautification of the highways be encouraged by the planting of trees and the clearing away of all objectionable and unsightly objects." ob-jects." Advertising billboards along the highways and in residential sections of cities and towns should pot be tolerated in a community which pretends pre-tends to be civilized. |
