Show State Contest Winner Named By Republicans At an Executive Committee meeting of the Young Republican League of Utah last week, Don Freebairn, 1817 So. 4th E., was named state winner of an essay contest sponsored by the National Young Republican League. Mr. Freebairn, a University of Utah student and University Young Republican Chairman, received re-ceived a pair of gold cuff links in the shape of elephants for his winning essay entitled, "Why I AM A Republican." This title was selected by the National Club and each entry was written on this subject The winning essay from each state will be forwarded to Washington, Wash-ington, D.C. The national winner will receive an all expense trip to the Young Republican National Convention in San Francisco. The appointment of Mr. Lloyd E. Jeffrey, 2847 Nila Way, Publicity Chairman and Editor of the State Young Republican newspaper, plans are being formulated for a Utah Young Republican political school. There will be speeches on publicity, campaigning and conventions. con-ventions. A work shop will also be held. All Young Republicans are invited to attend. The registration regis-tration fee will be $2.50. As a public service, the Young Republican League is currently conducting a survey among young people who have just reached the age of 21. A questionaire is being be-ing sent out to determine the interest in-terest young people of either party have in voting.
