Show wwmextmest “DE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS May Evergreen Memorial Services A special Memorial Day weekend service will be held Sunday, May 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd. Featured at the service will be the Galloway Scottish Bagpipe Band performing a repertoire of musical numbers and a Memorial Tribute. The Combined Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors, and a rendition of the Star Spangled banner by well know vocalist Michael Cram. The public is invited to attend as a Memorial Day Weekend observance. Summer Art Class Offered in Liberty This summer many parents will be facing the annual dilemma of what they are going to do with their children for three months when schools close for summer break. Will they be put in the usual team games or just have another round of summer siestas? One fresh alternative is to enroll in a class .. . No, not algebra, but something creative, educational, but still lots of fun! The class is art! Douglas Wood is teaching an art class limited to ten Doug Wood students beginning June 5 through June 27, Mondays and Tuesdays. The class will focus on being creative, “Being different and original is especially good in the world of art,” says Mr. Wood. He also remarked that the famous artist Pablo Picasso recognized, “Every child is an artist; the problem is how to remain an artist once grown!” has taught art in the public schools of the Ogden and Weber school districts for many years. He also was an adjunct instructor at the art department at Weber State. Summer Programs @ Your Library The Ogden Valley Branch Library will be kicking off its season of summer events on May 30 when children and teens can sign up for the 2006 Summer Reading Programs— Dive into Reading and A Bountyof Books. Dive into Readi Kids of all ages are invited to register for this free summer program. There will be eight weeks of great rewards for reading throughout the summer vacation, along with weekly raffles for tons of fun prizes. The library will also host lots of great events to drive away the dog days of summer. Registration is required, but beyond that, all you need is a diver’s sense of adventure! A Bounty of Books Travel back to the days of pirates during a summer ofA Bounty of Books. Teens can win prizes by reading books and writing their own personal book reviews! They can also explore the seas between Europe and the Americas by joining the library’s teen book discussion group on Robert Louis Stevenson’s incredible novel, Treasure Island. Registration is required, and copies of the book will be available to check out in June and July. Coming Attractions @ Your Library The Ogden Valley Branch Library will also be celebrating the cinema this summer with a FREE Family Film Festival that will run June through August. The festival will take place every Friday morning at 11:30 a.m., and will consist of a series of movies that patrons of all ages can enjoy. 0 eat, drink, and be entertained! All of the movies will be screened in the community room, and will feature light refreshments. Send payment with mailing address to: 15, 2006 Young Photographer from Eden Receives Honorable Mention Springville Art Show Seventeen year old Kimber Brady, daughter of John and Kim Brady of Eden, received an Honorable Mention Award in Utah’s Firs Congressional District Art Competition that was held in conjunction with the Annual All-State High School Exhibition Kimber is a High Honor roll student, and a 2nd year photography Intern for Ms. Kari McCulloch at Weber High School Local Artist Earns Art Museum Recognition Steven Songer of Huntsville was honored with a merit award at the Springville Museum of Art’s 82nd Annual Spring Salon. Other participants honored with awards were Michael J. Bingham of North Logan who received a second place award, and merit awards to G. Russell Case of Brigham City, Robert Alan Colvin of Morgan, Tyson Andrew Monson of Syracuse, Travis R Tanner of Farmington, Christopher T. Terry Eden Group Hosts 2nd Annual Community ok Fun-Run Last year the youth of Eden’s LDS Wolf Creek Ward organized a successful charity race. Families and friends in the community gathered, not only to raise money for cancer research, but to enjoy each other’s company and get a great workout! This year’s 2nd annual community SK fun-run will be held Saturday, June 3. The only entry fee is a donation to The Huntsman Cancer Institute, which will directly benefit the organization. Race participants should meet at the Eden Park across from the General Store by 6:45 a.m. for the race that Degins at 7:00. a.m., breakfast will be served at the park’s a Ifyou and your family do not wish to participate in the race, breakfast will still be offered by making a contribution to the institute.
