After Brigham Young was offered land incentives, he decided to make Ogden the “Junction City” of the two railroad companies. All of a sudden Ogden was on the map! With the completion of the transcontinental railroad, Ogden started growing drastically. The railroad brought business and service opportunities needed to accommodate the increase of population that the railroad brought to the cit A year after the railroad came to town, the Page 9 15, 2006 population of Ogden was 3,127; it would double every ten years thereafter until the population hit its all time high of 12,889 in 1890. The First Union Station But the real development on 25th Street only happened when Ogden residents decided that Ogden needed a new rail station and it was decided Lee i would be built at the west end of 25th S The first Union Station opened in 1889. Almost immediately, hotels sprang up on 25th Street alongside dining, drinking, entertainment, and retail establishments. The architecture was similar to international structures, and Ogden started to look more and more civilized—not like the typical western boom-towns of that era The grand Union Station became the proud entrance to 25th Street, and the once dusty road with a few smattering of cabins changed into the stomping grounds of the rich and famous. Often travelers would stop in the a City that was located about midy between Chicago and California to a a few days. The well traveled men and women of those days paraded up and down 25th Street in their European fashions; and so it happened, 25th Street became the place to be.
