Show A POOL PROBLEM The Conference Rate Question Not Yet Settled The DEMOCRAT on last Tuesday published pub-lished the rates adopted by the Utah Central Cen-tral and Denver Rio Grande railways that would be given visitors Salt Lake during conference time Those rates were given to the reporter at both offices and although it was stated the matter had not been finally settled it was intimated there was no question but the rates would be adopted But it seems that the sanction of Mr S W Eccles was necessary neces-sary and a reckoning was made while the host was absent Mr Eccles returned last evening from Denver and it is understood un-derstood he refuses to give his I consent to tIle adoption of the special I rates unless the Utah Central consents to allow the D R G a percentage on the conference business to Logan This action ac-tion is based upon article sof the rules and regulations adopted by the local pool which reads as follows No special rates of any kind which would cut the local rates between common com-mon points will be accepted in the reports re-ports of connecting lines except as mutually mutu-ally agreed nponH The D R G people claim that if the Utah Central gives special rates to Logan it will have the effect of cutting rates to Ogden a common point and therefore insist upon being included in the arrangement ar-rangement The Utah Central people take the position that Logan is not included by the pool and therefore that it has the right to do as it pleases in making rates to that point A conference con-ference was to be held this afternoon and an attempt made to settle the question ques-tion but the result was known when the DEMOCRAT went to press If each road adheres to the position it has taken there will either be no rates given to Salt Lake during conference time or the pool will go to pieces and each road will act independently |
