Show THIS MUST BE STOPPED. The street car company certainly has much to do in the way of improvement of its service. On last Tuesday evening the scenes enacted on the last car coming from Calder's Park were the most filthy, disgraceful and unwarranted that ever occurred oc-curred in the city of Salt Lake. Primarily, of course, the fault lay with the management of Calder's Park in permitting as they have done for months past the sale of liquor to boys under age, young hoodlums and boys who live with their parents in this city, but that fact does not in the least relieve the street car company of its share of the responsibility for the foul language, filthy songs, bawdy jests and unceasing flow of foul talk and jokes indulged in on the car, for neither conductor con-ductor nor motorman made any effort to put a stop to the actions of these young drunkards, ana ladies who were on the car were hustled and crowded, joshed in filthy language and made the butt of obscene remarks all the way in and in many cases were constrained to leave the car before arriving at their destinations because of the disgraceful scenes enacted by these young toughs. A number of men who came down on this car state that they never heard such an unceasing string of filthy language nor witnessed such a display of unchecked hoodlumism anywhere in their lives. If the company cannot control this objectionable objection-able class of passengers through its agents it is time the city authorities take hold of the matter and see if the street car service will not be the better for a thorough fumigating ar ' overhauling on these lines. |
