Show Mr. John Frederick Coope died of diphtheria at Santa Cruz, California, on the 12th instant. He was well known and had many friends in this city. He was married here, seventeen years ago, to the beautiful Miss Bertha Billing. Mr. Coope was English born and graduated from Oxford in the same cla3S with General Baden Powell of the British army. He came to America Ameri-ca twenty years ago. He was but forty-three years of age when he died. He was a large, powerful pow-erful man, a natural athlete. That such a frame as his should, at forty-three, succumb to dipth-theria dipth-theria is most strange. He was of a singularly sunny, generous and genial nature. The press of Santa Cruz picture him as one of the most energetic, ener-getic, gifted and public spirited men of their city, and deplore his death exceedingly. His home must be desolate beyond description. |
