Show munity leader Preston Nielson died of a heart attack while returning home from the game. Nielson, a cattle rancher, leader in the LDS Church, and Blanding Municipal Judge, was set to retire this year after serving for years on the San Juan School Board. by the San Juan Record staff In a season full of poignant moments, probably none was more poignant than when the San Juan Broncos gathered for a moment of silence in memory of Josh Bradford. In the midst ofa raucous celebration after the state championship game, silence fell over the field and for more than a minute, fans and players were silent in memory of Funeral notice Funeral services are an- nounced for Preston Nielson, who died on November 18, 2000. Viewings will be held Friday, November 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, November 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. at San Juan Mortuary. Funeral services begin at noon at the Blanding LDS Stake Center, 900 N 100 W. Bradford, who was killed in a tragic accident in 1999. The championship game was a culmination of a perfect season for the Broncos, who finish the year as the only undefeated team in Utah. Thousands of Bronco fans jammed the stadium at Mountain View High School in Orem. Support for the Broncos extended 22 miles north to Monticello. The Monticello High cheerleaders cheered on the Broncos on their way through Monticello to the championship game. The football team is a galvanizing force for a community that has suftered in recent months after the unexpected deaths of a number of residents, including Bradford and long time basketball coach and athletic director Dennis Jones. The victory celebration was shortened by yet another unexcom pected death. Long-tim- e Members of the San Juan Health Care Board and hospi- tal administrators are con- tinuing to work on how to deal with a shortfall offunds in the struggling health care district. San Juan County Commissioners have granted several cash infusions to the District in order to help it meet obligations. The Board is considering a variety of options to cut expenses, some of which they classify as painless and others as painful. The next Health Care Board meeting is Itiesday, November 28 at the Utah State University Center in Blanding. Related to health care crisis is the fact that our weekly list of births has been shorter in recent months. The weekly list will now include births to San Juan County parents in the Allen Memorial Hospital in Moab.
