Bronco teammates who join Burtenshaw on the All Region team include Farley Crofts, Travis Shumway, Cole Palmer, Jered Tate and Lamar Whitehorse. Five members of the San Juan appeared to dominate South Summit throughout the contest, but the Broncos were never quite able to shake loose from the Wildcats. It is the third year in a row that South Summit played in the championship game and third year in a row that they came away with the second place trophy. The game was marked by strong play on both sides on a slick and muddy field at Mountain View High School in Orem. After the opening kickoff, neither team wras able to gain an advantage through the early phases of the first quarter. However, late in the quarter, South Summit put together a sustained drive, with the help of an pass interference call on San Juan. The Wildcats seemed poised to score and Monticello High School football team were listed on the All Region team, including Clint Adams, Nathan Butler, Kevin Krist, Kyle Curtis and Ian Burtenshaw. The All Region teams cap a busy fall sports season in which the Monticello Bucka-roo- s won both boys and girls cross country championships and the San Juan Broncos won the football championship. The only championship trophy that did not end up in San Juan County was the volleyball trophy. The San Juan Broncos were not succesful in defending their volleyball title for the fourth straight year, but the champions South Summit Wildcats had to defeat the Broncos to earn the title. The focus of high school athletes now switch to wrestling and basketball. Buckaroo and Bronco squads are anxious to continue the trend of bringing home the state championship trophy.
