Bas n Stanflard U .r.tai Annexation election drama in Green River Moab Sometimes one more than enough still isn't enough. The Green River annexation measure appears to have failed to get a majority of registered voters in the Grand County portion of Green River, despite having received one more than the number previously thought to be required. As if mimicking the high drama in the Florida Presidential race recount, uncertainty over the way the number of eligible registered voters is being counted by Grand County has drawn an investigation by Emery County attorney David Blackwell. During counting of the absentee ballots and canvassing of the November 7 election, Grand County Clerk Fran Townsend said some registered voters in Elgin and Green River had not been included in the original tally she gave out following the election. She said the actual number of registered voters in the Green River portion of Grand County is 61, not 66. That could spell trouble for proponents of the measure, which would annex all of Green River into Emery County. Instead of needing 34 votes, a higher number of registered voters means annexation actually needs 41 votes. After counting the absentee ballots, the final totals rejwrted were 35 in favor, 17 against. As a result, the measure Times Independent appears to have failed by a mere six votes.
