Show Y.M.M.I.A. conference. On Sunday, [unreadable] as previously announced, the conference of the Y.M.M.I.A. of this stake assembled, superintendent Jno?. B. Thatcher, presiding. There were also present on the stand Presidents? Wm. B. Preston and C.O. Card, several presidents of Associations and other brethren. The only Associations outside of Logan that were represented were those of Paradise and Hyrum. The reports of the condition of the different Associations represented were not as favorable as could have been desired. But it was the belief of the speakers that when the missionaries appointed to visit the Associations of this Stake, came around, a new imp?? would be given to them. Some were waiting to an imperfectly organized condition for the missionaries to visit them. After the verbal reports had been give, Superintendent J? B. Thatcher addressed the meeting. The next business in order was the organization of a lecture bureau, and the names of B. F. Cummings, Jr. [unreadable] J. T. Hammond, H. E. Hatch and Collins Fullmer were presented to and sustained by the congregation as such Bureau. Elder B. F. Cummings Jr., then explained that the labors of this bureau would consist in making arrangements for lectures to be delivered to the different associations throughout this Stake from time to time. It was then announced that the meeting would adjourn til Six o'clock in the evening when Elders B. F. Cummings, Jr., and Jno. F. Caine, Jr., would lecture, and that no meetings would be held in the various wards, so that all who wished might attend the lectures in the evening. It was also announced that the next Y.M.M.I.A. conference would convene on Sunday, April 3rd, in Logan tabernacle and every three months thereafter. In the evening a large audience assembled. Elder B. F. Cummings, Jr., spoke upon the subject of "Missionary incidents," and detailed some of his more interesting experiences in the missionary field. [unreadable] Caine, Jr., followed with a lecture, having as a subject the remark by Patrick Henry, "It is natural for a man to indulge in the illusions of hope." The speaker drew some excellent murals from his object. When he had closed, Elder Cummings read a letter from Apostle Wilford Woodruff to Pres. Preston in which a call was made for 30 families to go from this Stake to ?? at St John, Arizona. Pres. Preston made a few remarks upon the subject of the letter, when the meeting closed with singing and benediction. |
