Show A COMMON SOOIJ) A woman has just been sentenced to one year's imprisonment In Trenton, Tren-ton, N. J. for being a common scold. This is an interesting revival. For a long time now scolding, especially from public platforms, has not on'.y been patiently tolerated, but has become be-come accepted as a professional privilege. pri-vilege. The Rev. Billy Sunday, for instance, raised scolding to a rhetorical rhetor-ical art. Certain members of drama leagues and art and music interests and other highbrow enthusiasts have been getting get-ting away with the most amazing public scolding from platforms. Even politicians have a wonderful time scolding one another or scolding Europe Eu-rope or scolding the electorate or scolding ollicial incumbants of coveted covet-ed jobs. In fact, we can almost be divided into two classes, the scolders ami the scolded. We are not informed to what extremes ex-tremes the Trenton offender went to arouse judicial wrath or whom she scolded; but why single her out for punishment? |
