With the Falcons varsity squad enjoying a rare week off. Air Force Academy shipped a talented, if not loaded, team to Ephraim. The Badgers struck first on an Olin Hannum to Aaron Boone touchdown pass with three seconds left in the first quarter, staking Snow to a 7-- 0 lead. The Badgers increased their lead to 14-- 0 when Joe Lomu rushed in from three yards out on the very next series. However, just when it looked as if the Badgers had the game in hand. Air force got their vaunted option attack rolling. The Falcons found the end zone when James Bums capped an 1 1 play, drive with an 11 yard touchdown run to cut into the Badgers lead, 14-The Badgers offense responded quickly, when Hannum connected with Mike Larsen for a 51 yard strike less than three minutes later to give Snow a 21-- 7 lead, a cushion they would carry into the locker room at the half. In the third quarter. Snow opened up their lead to 28-- 7 when Hannum connected with Brian Romney for a touchdown pass, proving that Air Force had yet to figure out Snows passing attack. With a 21 point lead in hand, the Badgers may have let down their guard. Air Force capitalized on a Badger turnover and scored with 5:59 left in to make it 28-1- 3 the third quarter. Once again. But starting with the last play of the period, the Dinos started on the most drive by either team, 10 plays for 65 yards, with Matt Holt bulling his way in for the final yard. On the extra point, however. Now in the final period, the Hawk line blew away the Dino defenders to blast open holes that armies could march through. First it was Clint Aime running for 10 yards and a first down at the 30. Hawks fumbled the ball back a minute later and the Dinos were back in business at the Hawk 34 with two minutes on the clock. The Hawk defense played tough as the Dinos missed on four passes in a row. In fact, officials were so impressed with the Hawk defensive stand, that they decided to blow an inadvertent whistle on fourth down so the Dinos could take a fifth crack at a first down. Again the ball fell incomplete and the Hawks took over with a lf to go. Once more the Hawk offensive line and Mark Noorlander teamed up, first for 18 yards into Dino territory.
