Show Page Two - The Pyramid - October 27, 1999 ','s , K nlV M j Ramblings These October days have been terrific. The weather has been so enjoyable. Sitting in my Dixie Rotary Bowl at Badger Stadium Saturday afternoon, I was wishing that I had brought sunscreen. What a day and what a game! Snow College beat the Air Force Academy in overtime. The big games of Ricks at home and Dixie on the road are coming up the next two weeks. Many Sanpeters are heavy into the World Series. I know folks around here who are real baseball fans. One guy in particular knows more about baseball and baseball trivia than Bob Costas. He keeps track of peoples phone numbers by baseball players jersey numbers. if your (For example: phone number was 4517, this guy would say, "Okay, Ill remember your number, its Pedro Martinez, 45, and Bret Saverhagen, 17." he is first and foremost a Red Sox fan.) He know the details on all the world series games for the past 50 years. I, on the other hand, would have trouble during wartime being identified as a friend and not a foe. Remember those old war movies where the army guys ask the stranger who won the world series for the past few years to determine if hes really an American and not an infiltrating spy? I dont have a memory for that kind of information. (I believe the Yankees have won more than anyone, so that would be the odds-o- n answer.) There are many fans for both the Braves and the Yankee around these parts. They are both big time teams with big payrolls and plenty of television coverage. Good luck to you and the team of your choice. How about the deer hunt? Theres still a lot of folks who hunt; but not as many as there used to be. Ive seen some nice racks on deer propped up in the past the backs of pick-up- s few days. Hunting is a big deal in Sanpete and should be preserved as best we can. Get ready! The will be out this Saturday. I have seen lots of Sanpete Homes and yards decorated for the Halloween season. I read somewhere that Halloween motivates more retail sales than any other holiday except Christmas. Ive had some bumper stickers brought to my attention lately. Here are some of the best ones that can be printed in a family newspaper. l)If at first you don't succeed... blame someone else and seek counseling. 2)Youre just jealous because the voices are talking to me. 3)Eat right, exercise, die anyway. 4)Saw it... wanted it... had a fit... got it! 5)Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket? 6)Guys: no shirt, no service; gals: no shirt, no charge (sign on cafe door), 7)Boldly going nowhere. 8)If we quit voting, will they all go away? 9)Illiterate? Write for help. 10)Remember folks: stop lights timed for 35 MPH are also timed for 70 MPH. 11) Honk if youve never seen an Uzi fired from a car window. Happy Halloween... Merrill I am a student in the fifth grade at Neil Hafley School in Manteca, CA. I have adopted your state as a class project. I will be doing a report and making a display about Utah. In May, my class will be having a "States Fair". I will display and show everything I have recieved and learned about your state for my whole school. It would be helpful if you could ask your readers to send me postcards, maps, brochures, information about wildlife, industry, neat places to visit, statistics, sports teams and any other information your readers feel would be helpful. I hope your readers will help me with my project. Im looking forward to hearing from them, and promise to send a note of appreciation to them for helping me. I am excited to learn about your state. Mr. Hall has been accused by three grandchildren of inappropriate sexual behavior. The grandchildren are the daughters of Mr. Halls son, who has been involved with acrimonious divorces from the two mothers of the grandchildren. I write to remind readers that Mr. Hall denies the charges. Mr. Hall, like all citizens, is entitled to the presumption of innocence. Nothing has been proven, and let me assure the readers that Mr. Hall intends to vigorously defend against these charges. Everyone has very strong reactions to allegations of sexual abuse. These are my concerns and what I would like to see done there. I feel that there is need for sidewalks for the safety of children. I would like to see crosswalks, especially near the Main Street, State Street area, and also by the grocery store and gas stations. Drivers need to know where to stop to let pedestrians cross, as well as the rules for crosswalks. Fairview is becoming a larger busier community, people need be able to walk without getting muddy. Strollers are not easy to push through the dirt, bad roads, and mud, and I believe that we need to do something about it.
