Nielson, a 1992 graduate of San Juan High, has coached the last six years at Grand County High School in Moab. He replaces Derek Farr, who recently accepted a position at North Sanpete High School. Rogers Hornsby Local youth compete in Mini and The speed events are definitely the highlight of the day. Saturdays show included two speed events, the poles and the keyhole. Winners of these events were determined riders and Forty-Thre- e horses participated in the first horse show of the summer on Saturday, May 24 at the San Juan County fair grounds arena in Monticello. This was the first of four shows scheduled this summer with the final show being during the week of the county fair. Kids are registered for the by lowest time. Horse program is The growing within the county and for becoming a new past-tim- e 4-- H many of the youth in our communities during the year. Club leaders meet with their riders and horses at least once a week to prepare for the upcoming show and to learn how to care for and train their horses. Riders spend several hours in preparing themselves and their horses for each shows summer by classification according to their age. Classifications include Minis, Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors. Two-hande- d is an additional class for riders with horses s of that are under five-year- age. Each participant competes competition. Next months against other riders in their Horse Show 4-- H show is scheduled for June 21 at the San Juan County fair grounds at 10 a.m. Unofficial high point winners of Saturdays horse show include; In the Minis first Lane Rossow, second Justin Nielson, third Jens Grover; Juniors first Erica Grover, second Daylen Holt, third Jesse Grover; Intermediates: first Cody Hatcher, second Kyson Shumway, tied for third were JJ Grover and Jordan Grover; Seniors: first Jessilee Rowley, second Karah Shumway, third Nathan Freestone; and in the Two-Hande- first Jessilee Rowley, second Shaylee Grover, third Nicole Freestone. classification for ribbons and an opportunity to win additional awards after the summer season. Saturdays show consisted of two judged events and two speed events. A judge hired by the USU Extension Office, judges each participant on control and presentation of the horse in the halter event. During the pattern event, horse and rider work their way through a pattern by trotting, walking, backing, loping, stopping and turning. Participants are judged on their skill in getting their horse to perform this particular pattern.
