Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, May 28, 2003 O all know what Im You talking about, the old car on the side of Devils Canyon. It is always there, often with a different message each time we pass by. It is constant. I get a little sense of anticipation at the top of the canyon, wondering who visited it the night before. I know, from my kids, that sometimes it is painted over two or three times in one night. I hope the new construction doesnt mar the view. It is a highlight of the highway to Blanding or Monticello. Business was so brisk they soon grew out of the building and in 1996, they moved to the present facility. According to Stan, SJBS is successful for three reasons: 1. Construction back ground: We are where we are because of our dad, says Stan, who manages both companies, while Joe is the president of both. We began earning a wage in the construction business at a very early age. Tri-Hur- st This lifetime of experience lets them help people out. They can give you the advice you need. 2. Honesty: Honestly, do you know anyone more honest than Joe, married to Shana and father of four boys and one daughter, unless it is Stan, who is married to Angela and is the father of six daughters? They are honest with people. If they cant help someone out, they tell them so. Theyve sent customers to other stores when they cant meet the need. It is a risk to run businesses in a small market, but the Hursts st they also own and manage The late Scott Hurst, their father, formed the company in 1987 with Joe and Stan, restructuring a company (Hurst Construction) which had partnered Scott and Pete Black for years. Pete and Scott amicably split ways and was formed. You know the Hurst hoys. These fellows know a lot and they simply want to provide service for your construction needs. In fact, that is exactly how SJBS was started. In 1989, Dineh Lumber closed and was forced to buy construction supplies for their own use.
