Rigby was honored by the Utah Arts Council with the Governors Award in the Arts on May 22, 2003 at a luncheon at the Alta Club. Ada R. Rigby is an outstanding folk artist who in expressing the traditional values of her hometown of Blanding, San Juan County, Utah. excels Although she is accomplished artist an in n e e d e c r a ft s domesti c 1 including quilting, knitting and tatting, Ada is best known for decorative paper cutting. In this art form, Ada reveals her artistic genius. She is master of composition who creates exquisitely detailed tableaus based on images that reinforce her to strong commitment community values. Her pieces depict her family, community and life experiences through the use of recognizable local landscape, buildings, people and activities. Rigby has served as a master artist teaching the art of paper cutting through the Utah Arts Council's Art Apprenticeship Program. She has been a featured artist in many prestigious Utah venues including an international andor achievement distinguished service to the arts in Utah. This annual event is combined for the first time in 2003 with the Salt Lake Chamber Honors in the Arts. Busath Photography will donate photographs of the selected artist for display in the Chamber offices and at Abravanel Hall. A selection committee of community representatives organized by the Utah Arts Council and the Governors Office selected the Governors Award in theArts- Artist Award recipient.
