Show SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR EVERT BILLINGS Funeral services were conducted in the First Ward chapel Sunday for Evert Billings, 45, victim of a Yampa-Green river expedition which began Monday morning of last week. His body was found on Friday, by veteran river runners to end a five day search in which rivermen, highway patrolmen, the three surviving members of the party and other citizens participated. partici-pated. Services were under direction of Bishop J. Y. Bearnson of the Fifth ward. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery, under direction direc-tion of A. Y. Wheeler and Son Mortuary. The tragedy occurred when Mr. Billings with three other men, including in-cluding his son-in-law, Erwin Day, Arnold Kidd and Harold Twitchell, set out on the river trip early Monday. When the boat capsized the three other men made it to shore, but Mr. Billings was caught in the swift waters of the river and washed several miles down stream. He was born at Jensen, Utah, Dec. 19, 1902, son of Alfred N. and Alice Orsen Billings. He graduated grad-uated from the Uintah high school at Vernal and attended the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university for two years. He was married to Lizzie Phillips Phil-lips April 30, 1925, in the Salt Lake temple and had since made his home in Springville. He was active in the LDS church and served as a home missionary mis-sionary for the Springville Fifth ward. He was also a member of the Elders' quorum and a Sunday School teacher for a long time. He was employed as a bricklayer and home builder. Survivors are his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Hannah Marie Billings Day; his mother who resides re-sides in Vernal, and five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Erma Collett, Mrs. Vella Smith, Mrs. Ona Wooley, George C. Billings, and Eldon P. Billings, all of Vernal. |
