Show CASE AGAINST DRIVER NEAR CONCLUSION Fai.c of Clay Larsen, 37, Salt Lake City motorist charged with involuntary manslaughter, was expected Lo go to the jury's hands late Tuesday afternoon. At 11:45 the state rested its case. Larsen was driver of a truck which July 4th struck a car in which Robert Dangerf ield, 55, Springville, was riding on the highway entering Provo from Springville. Dangerfield died as a result of the accident. Walter Williams, 40, Salt Lake City, also was killed in the crash. Tiling Witnesses Heard Testimony of three state witnesses wit-nesses was heard during the morning morn-ing session: Mrs. Pearl Falkner, Springville; Stanley E. Peay, Provo; and Ralph Jones, Springville. Spring-ville. Mrs. Falkner, a passenger in the Dangerfield sedan, said she noticed Larsen's approaching truck about two blocks off as it swung past several cars. She said it was traveling at a high rate of speed when it swung out of the traffic line across the road's center cen-ter into the death car. Peay said he was working in the McCoard service station when Larsen's truck went by. He estimated its speed at about 50 miles per hour. Jones related that the truck passed him about eight-tenths of a mile from the accident scene as he was driving about 35 miles per hour. He said the crash came when he had completed about half the remaining distance between that and the wreck point. Police Officer Wesley Robey related to the court that Larsen Lar-sen left the scene of the accident and that it was necessary to complete com-plete his arrest in Salt Lake City. Monday afternoon Carl B. Hope of Provo, an eyewitness, and William Wil-liam E. Berry of Provo, repor.ted their views of the crash. Deputy Sheriff Reuben L. Christianson reported measurements at the scene. Melvin Grant, Utah state patrolman, was called to verify Christianson's tabulations. Sessions were held before Judge Abe W. Turner. |
