Show LOWER STEEL PRICES SOUGHT WASHINGTON, Jan. IS (U.R) Congressional action today was directed at curbing the business recession and alleviating suffering attending the slump in trade and employ men i. The house ways and means committee com-mittee continued its hearings on tax revision designed to ease the burden on business and Chairman James F. Brynes. D., S. C, of the senate unemployment and relief committee said that he would seek an amendment to the Social Security act which would speed payments to workers made i'dle by the recession. Furthermore, high administration officials, it was reported, re-ported, are studying proposals for a general reduction of steel and possibly other prices. Some economists econ-omists contend that such a price reduction is essential to stimulate building and heavy industry. |
