Show Page Two THE SPRINGVILLE (UTAH) HERALD September 24, I959J Sr. High Student of the Week . . . Editor's Note A series of "Students of the Week" is be-ing published in the Spring-vill- e Herald, recognizing stu-dents in the senior class of the high school student body. A student-facult- y committee se-lects the student taking into consideration such attributes as citizenship, school service, at-titude and use of capacities. Gloria Sargent Talented, hardworking, ener-getic, cheerful and cooperative, 'these are some of the adjec-tives students and teachers use to describe the student of the week, Gloria Sargent. Gloria has been busy in student af-fairs at Springville High School. In her sophomore year she was a homeroom represen-tative and during her junior year, of her class. She is a member of the Pep Club, FHA, and is a solo-ist and officer in the A Cap-pell- a Choir. This talented young lady has received much recognition for her ability as a musician. She won a gold certificate from the Federated Music Clubs as a result of three consecutive superior ratings in music fes-tival competition. Gloria has probably performed on more school assemblies and pro-grams than any student in the high school, and each perform-ance is enthusiastically receiv-ed. Many church and civic or-ganizations have also been thrilled by her playing. Miss Sargent's church acti-vity has been as commendable as her school record. She is a Silver Gleaner, a Sunday School organist, and has earn-ed five individual awards along with serving in several other church capacities. Gloria is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Merle Sargent and plans on attending BYU after high school. f I v - ,v .'A, I . V Gloria Sargent FOR SALE FERTIL IZERS, Insecticides, seeds, garden tools, feeds, Boats & Motors. County Group Approves Road West of Lake Fearing that if the proposed truck road west of the lake were not approved, a still more remote highway through Cedar Valley to the Delta area, may be constructed, a Utah county road study com-mittee this week voted to ac-cept $1,200,000 in state funds for a "truck route," west of the lake from Camp Williams Junction to Santaquin Junc-tion. The unanimous vote of seven members of the committee pre-sent at the time the ballot was taken however hinged on two conditions: 1 that the $600,000 link planned by the state from Elberta to Mona be killed and 2nd that the views of members of the com-mittee not present at the time of voting be considered. One of the members already indicated he would demand an-other meeting. The mayor of Payson was absent but sent a representative who did not vote and the Elberta representative was not present.
