Coach Benny Killpack has a good sized club this year I and some fast boys in the backfield. His line work has to date been a bit ragged, but if these boys decide to play football Friday, they should I give the Bulldogs a tough ! battle. Captains for the team, Sheldon Bartholomew & Lynn Hales, have been encouraging i the club with their stellar play I on the line in the backfield. Bartholomew plays guard and Hales in the quarterback spot. Allman, Early and Cherring-! Cherring-! ton are the other ground runners run-ners and much is expected of j these ball toters come Fri-j Fri-j day. Linemen include Simkins, j Child, Boyer, Bartholomew, Neff, and McClain. Palfreyman and Murray are also first rate backfield men who have seen equal action along with Felix and Bleggie. Other line boys I include Brown, Rawle, Davies, J Russell, Thorn and Roylance. I Provo will be the favorite in I the Friday skirmish, but if the Devils hit their stride, they I should come up with a win. A good battle is in the offing. Devils lose to Jordan Springville won the toss in the Devil-Beetdigger game at Sandy last Friday, but lost everything else so far as statistics and score went in the grid battle. Final count was 31-0. From the opening kickoff the Jordan club started from their own 40 with good line backing, several power plays, and a nice end run scored their first 6 points in 5 minutes. The attempted drop kick was low. J After holding the Red Devils within their 40 yard line the Jordan attack began again after af-ter a run back to their own 44. Two consecutive 10 yard sprints carried the ball to the Springville 34 and six plays later the Jordan boys had another an-other score. The kick for the extra point was again low. The quarter ended as Allman returned the kick to the Springville 20 with the score reading 12-0. It took three plays in the second quarter for Springville to set up another Jordan touchdown after the Devils lost ground and then got a bad pass from center on the kick play which gave the ball to Jordan on the Springville one. One play scored for Jordan Jor-dan and the count was 18-0. A fumble was recovered recov-ered on the 35 and then Jordan Jor-dan made a beautiful right end run that carried over the goal, but there was a penalty on the play that nullified the score. Jordan picked up 18 yards on a nice ruii after taking over on down and then carried the ball to the Devil 5 from where they scored. The kick for the extra point was good and they held a 25-0 lead with 2 minutes to go in the first half. Cherrington returned the kickoff to his own 43 after making a nice running catch and then the Devils were held and Jordan took over on their own 45 at halftime. Why not in Springville? It was a pleasure to watch the Jordan pep club perform at the half and this writer commends com-mends them for their performance. perform-ance. It would improve the spirit of Springville games and probably help materially in getting a crowd out were the pep club here to be active during the football season instead in-stead of just concentrating on performances on the basketball basket-ball floor only. We wonder if "restrictions" at the high school are prohibiting the Pep club from participating. Springville looked like a winning club when they opened open-ed the second half play. Even though the Jordan coach played play-ed his second string for a good part of the second half the Springville boys played much improved ball. Midway in the third quarter the Devils' line held on their own 6 and Springville took over. Allman made a beautiful 20 yard run to the 23 and Early made it one and 10 of the Jordan 40. It was then that Hales swept right end for a 30 yard run and a score which was nullified because of a penalty. Jordan scored once more in the final quarter to bring the total to 31-0. |
