Show WEST VALLEY VIEW g Thursday June 23, 1983 Two Legion Victories - Judge Players Give Wedding Present SALT LAKE. A and some heavy hitting against one of the top Valley American Legion pitchers boosted Judge to two victories here during the week. The wins were fitting wedding presents for Judge Coach Bob who was married DePasquale, Saturday at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Because of the wedding, DePasquale was forced to miss Fridays game against Highland. Lucky he did. Judge gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh and lost Other than that, the week was good for Judge. DePasquale was back on Monday when Dan Auer fired a against Brighton in a 1 win. Last Wednesday, Holladay hurler Val Sundberg was the victim of a attack as Judge captured a 12-- win. In addition to striking out nine bat- ters. Auer also had a 3x3 day at the plate. His first hit came on a bunt after Sean Skamnes had led off the fourth with a walk. Judge then loaded the bases when an attempt was made at third on Marty Biljanics sacrifice bunt, but it was too late. One run crossed the plate on a single to right by Rudy Chong. A second scored on Paul Barbieros suicide squeeze and the third on a sacrifice fly to right by Shawn Rod-maJudge added an insurance run in the seventh when Auer singled and eventually came around to score. 8-- Highland 8, Judge 7 4-- 5 Judge 4, Brighton baseman Barbiero apparently wasnt in the vicinity of the bag on the deciding play in the seventh inning of Judge's game against Highland. The score was deadlocked Highland had a runner at first with one out when an infield grounder was hit. The ball was fired to Barbiero at second. He relayed it to first, but his throw went awry and bounced into short right field. The umpire, meantime, had ruled that the runner at second was not out, that Barbiero hadnt tagged the bag while possessing the ball. And when the ball bounced into right, the runner came around to score with the winning run. But Highland came right back against Pat Baker, lead. eventually building the Judges other run came on a double by Rodman. Bakers performance had its good points and bad points, as did Nelsons. Baker struck out 11, walked just three and surrendered just six hits. But two were long balls. Nelson retired 14 batters on strikes and walked just two, but was still touched for five runs on an equal number of hits. Rodman had three of those. 7-- Run-scorin- 2-- 0 To Coach Sundberg drove in Holladays first two runs with a bases-loade- d single in the second. After that, however, the game belonged to Auer, who third innings posted Judge to a big early lead. Singles by Trentman, Skamnes, two-ru- n Knell and Auer, plus a two-ou- t, single by Barbiero accounted for the first quartet. The second foursome crossed the plate on singles by Rodman and Trentman, an error, a bases loaded walk and two runscoring fielders choices. Judge wrapped it up in the fifth when singles by Knell, Auer and Chong produced two runs; two more came home in the sixth on base hits by Rodman, Trentman and Knell. finished with a coercing Holladay into sending numerous groundouts to the left side of the in- Judge 12, Holladay field.
