As one might expect, the finale of the Taylorsville-Grange- r game was a wild one. After leading most of the game, Taylorsville fell behind, had to play catch-u- p ball and, once that was accomplished, used a dramatic grand slam to post an 4 Valley American Legion victory over the Western Division leaders The loss was the first of the season for Granger after five victories and boosted Taylorsville into a virtual tie for the lead going into yesterdays (Wednesday) gafnes. The heroics belonged to Troy Kay, who caught hold of a 1 pitch from Brian Joy and sent it out of the park. 2-- Kays winning blast came after Taylorsville loaded the sacks on walks to Phil Evans and Jonny Walker (on identical counts), and an infield error. The rest was left to Walker, who had relieved Darren Evans on the mound in the fifth inning Walker surrendered a single to Chuck Embley, but he died at first when the next batter popped up and the final two struck out. 2 8-- RENT MOVIES iIDEO EQUIPMENT RENT VIDEO RECORDER THURS. He had given up just one hit and had two outs in the fifth when he got himself into trouble. He issued a walk to Joy, then a single to Platt and a walk to Van Orden. Joy raced home on a wild before Evans pitch, making it ended his stint on the mound by walking Darren Woodard. To protect the one-rulead, Sceili brought in Walker. But the smooth r didnt have his control to begin with either, walking Greg Wilder and Embley to force in the tyruns. But he ing and escaped further trouble with a strikeout. , Taylorsville bounced back to knot the score in the top of the sixth. " Phil Evans led off with a double and went to third on a wild pitch Walker drew a walk. When Joy attempted to pick Walker off first, his throw went astray, allowing Evans to score the tying run from third. While Kay was to provide the offensive heroics in the eighth, Walker rebounded from his shaky start to throw three-plu- s innings of scoreless relief, scattering two hits and striking out four. Granger did help out, however, with some less than intelligent Initially, the contest looked like it belonged to Coach Barry Sceilis Taylorsville club. Lead-of- f hitter Mike Littlewood received new life his first time up in foul territory was when a pop-u- p not caught. Given a reprieve, Littlewood slugged a home run to give his team a 0 lead. Even though Granger came right back on a sacrifice fly by Scott Van Orden (he drove in Jeff Platt, who had walked), Taylorsville was in charge for the next four innings. With two outs in the third, Sceilis club took the lead when Littlewood walked and came around to score easily on a double to left center by Craig Vargo. Another two-ou- t rally made it in the fourth. This time fate had a hand in the action. A hard grounder down the third base line by Troy Kay took an erratically upward hop, nailing Granger third baseman Mitch Larsen in the forehead. As Larsen hit the turf, the ball bounced into foul territory just beyond the infield. By the time it was recovered, Kay was standing on second with a double and Larsen was lying on the ground with a swollen eyebrow, a few imprinted stitch marks from the ball and a dizzy head.
