Show y . SELECTED, r. ': Richest Gold Ledqfs in the World. We yesterday "received the following letter, dated "Martinez Mining Min-ing Distric, Camp Date Crf-ek, Arizona Ari-zona Territory June 4." 1870." We know the writer intimately; lie is not on y reliable, but is a gentleman of eouud judgment, ripe, experience . in mi. ing uiatiers, and one not giveu to "excitements." He has bet-n engaged in the Various brandies of gold and silver mining in Mexico, Central and South America, California and 2s e vada for nearly thirty years, having spent sixteen years of that time m Mexico, wtjither he returned iruiti this State about two mouth s since Here is what he says: "My Lear John: i have just arrived here on my way back troiu the city of Mexico to see the neW mines lately disouvered at this piace, There a e seven of the richest gold ledges in the world here, all of which have been discovered within the last mouth viz : the Queen of Palmyra, .Lintezuuia, " Keai; del Moiiie, Cornucopia, Buena Vista, Mayflower and Martinez. The Cornucopia Cornu-copia runs north east and south we:-t, with a northerly pitch of decrees. It crops out 20 teet above the surface lor a distance of one mile, with pure native gold visible all over it This is the ''lost ledge" supposed to have been di-c-ivered some ten years ago by a man named Leehie, who was soon afterward killed' by the Indians, on returning to the ledge with a party of uien from California.-- In the aulch under the ledge fifty cents to the pan is being Avaslied out by Mexicans. .This ledge is 200 feet wide. " The Queen of Palmyra is south-east of the Cornu copia about half a mile, and runs up a yiuon betweeu two high peaks" of' mountain The trend aud dip are the same as the Cornucopia.1 The quartz of this ledge is all covered with native gold, and the surrounding dirt yields seventy five cents to one dollar per pan . ihe Martinez is within 200 yards of the Queen of I almyra., and was the firs' ledge in the district discovered by some Mexican huutcrs It is rich iu gold, and covered with pyrites. Due west from the .Martinez is the Mayflower, May-flower, distant about 700 yards. The ore ot this mine is like that of the Real del Monte full of little cells, crammed with gold as fine as the finest flour, which, by shaking the quartz, drops out. One assay from the vein went sixty-five thousand doLars to ihe ton This leoge, like the bala ce.commenoes in a flat valley and ruus over small rolling hills to the range. The Real del Monte is situated between two great mountain peaks, and runs on the smootti surface of a sloping hill toward the tag which divides the two ranges ; crops out some twelve feet, and can be traced some 5000 feet on the surface ; is lull of native gold, and has the char acteristic honeycomb cells in the quartzs, which are filled with fine gold Wood and water are abundant at the veiy base of the mountain on which this mine is situated. The Montezuma is of the same character of quartz as the Martinez. The Buena Vista is situated at the head of a ravine, on a sag between two perpendici iar peaks. Tlie quartz of this vein has a decomposed, decom-posed, ferruginous appearance, is very rich, and yields in the arastra $3000 to $4000 per week. The formation here is gneiss and granite ; the ledges run easterly and westerly, with a northerly dip, and are about 150 feet wide. Four arastras have been built and are turn -iug out trom $3000 to $40u0 per week each. None but Mexicans in the district. dis-trict. Elko Ind-pendcnt. |
