Members of the OVBA attended this annual social event to review the year’s accomplishments, honor the outgoing Chair and Board members, and acknowledge those members that have gone above and beyond i in volunteering to forward the mission and goals of the organization. Lisa Karam, outgoing Chair, reviewed the organization’s accomplishments of the year, including a successful second printing of the Valley Views Magazine and the Ogden Valley Map, participation in community events such as the Ogden Marathon, Ogden Valley Balloon Festival, The Ogden Valley Triathlon and the Snowdance. result of the Ogden Valley Triathlon held in September, are examples of the OVBA’s goal of “giving back to the community.” . Ms. Karam announced over $8,300 in proceeds were raise he third annual Snowdance in November Brandt Jones, President, and athletes and coaches of the Snowbasin Ski Education Foundation were on hand at the dinner to accept a check for $4,754.52 representing their portion of the roceeds. This check along with the $450 previously donated to Huntsville Park as a a third printing of the Valley Views Magazine and the Ogden Valley Map, participation in community events such as the Ogden Marathon, Ogden Valley Balloon Festival, The Ogden Valley Triathlon and the Snowdance. Issue VIII 1, 2005 2002 Winter Olympic Museum Opens in Ogden Ogden Valley BusinessAssociation Holds Second Annual Installation Dinner at Gray Cliff Lodge pe Volume XI Planet Rainbow at Rainbow Gardens at the mouth of Ogden Canyon announced today the Grand Opening of the 2002 Winter Olympic Museum and Gallery on Saturday, February 5 coinciding with the 3rd anniversary of the Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games held in 2002. Planet Rainbow, a unique retail operation featuring Utah books, gifts, and souvenir memorabilia, is thrilled to announce the opening of this one of a kind venue. According to Robert Peery King, owner of Planet Rainbow, “The museum will feature important memorabilia, including an original Olympic torch, athlete medals, photographs, art work, and the state’s largest collection of commemorative pins that were created for the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Games. The gallery portion of the venue still features a few limited selections available to collectors and tourists alike.” “Although most Utahans think the Olympics are well done and over with, out of state visitors and tourists ask for information on the games on a daily basis,” according to store manager Richard Milner. “Although we have very limited quantities of collectables left, everyone visiting Utah seems to want something to remember our state’s greatest moments.” A Grand Opening Reception and Ribbon Cutting will be held Saturday, ScDenaay 5, 2004 from 1:00 to 200 m. Complimentary refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon. Artist’s Work Now on Display at Eccles Community Art Center The Eccles Community Art Center’s Main Gallery will open a juried exhibition of photography from the 14th Statewide Photographic Competition. This exhibition will open Friday, February 11 and continue on display through Saturday, March 26, 2005. An opening reception at which awards will be presented is scheduled for February 11, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Opening in our Carriage House Gallery on the same evening will be an exhibition featuring works by Annette Orrock of Ogden. The 14th Statewide Photographic Competition will feature recent (within the last two years); original photographs by resident Utah photographers. Salt Lake City Photographer, Kent Miles served as the juror for the competition. It is a varied and interesting exhibition. Awards presented at the opening reception will include monetary awards, three Honorable Mentions and $500 in Purchase Awards. The works receiving the purchase awards are chosen by the juror and the center’s Board of Directors and are assessed into the center’s permanent collection. The Eccles Community Art Center’s permanent collection is rotated throughout the auxiliary rooms and third floor galleries, as well as being the source for much of the art that is taken into local schools by the center’s excellent docent program This project has received funding from grants provided by Ogden City Arts, the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Annette Orrock has returned to Ogden after many years of teaching, writing, and painting in Oregon. She is currently teaching pastel and watercolor courses for the Eccles Community Art Center. In 1988, she graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Fine Art with an illustration emphasis. She art and writing was publisted in The Herald Journal, and ie Utah State University Statesman. She was the winner of the Ralph Jennings Smith Conapection 1 in Creative Writing. While. in Oregon, she participated in numerous programs uch Art In Education, Adventures in Learning, Art in Science - Science Art, and Painting the Garden. She has written and illustrated a children’s book. She has exhibited her artwork and has received “Lilac” ommission work in illustrations: academic, scientific, and cartoon, as well as fine art Annette says of her work, “The act of painting is quiet, exciting, hopeful, loving, compelling. When the painting is going well I forget lunch, loss, and elsewhere, and I paint away in the ineffable bliss of seeing. When the painting isn’t going well, I get through the unrequited love misery and try again, believing that painting will teach me how to paint.” The Eccles Community Art Center’s regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The center is closed Sundays.
