Hansen’s reply, (The OGDEN VALLEY NEws, January 15, 2005) to Dianna Currie’s letter from January 1, 2005. I hope you will print this, just as a rebuttal! I must praise Richard Hansen for his letter. [have lived in Ogden Canyon for almost 20 years and I agree with him totally! I can’t count the times I have had to call police because of people going too fast that then couldn’t stop in time and have rear-ended people trying to turn into the areas where they live in the canyon! I would like to have Ms. Currie pay attention to the speed limit signs. At the bottom of the canyon; the first sign says 40 mph. But, not much further up, at the first big turn, a sign is posted for 30 mph, and it stays that way for the rest of the way up the canyon to the bottom of the dam where it changes to Brandi Hammon, Eden The OGDEN VALLEY NEws does not ee pr ‘omote or g of any It is always said that where we live is an amazing place. I recently had an experience that made me realize it is not the place that is amazing per se, but the people. The marvel and hominess felt in this valley is from the heart of the people in it. Over the Christmas holiday I opened a business in Ogden and the best part of being a new business owner was the ability to give back to the community. I selected a charity and offered to help find sponsors for 50 children from the YCC. These children had been from homes where domestic violence has been experienced within the last 12 months and were in the process of hopefully starting a new life. Being idealistic and feeling the spirit of Christmas, | set off enthusiastically with my names in hand to find sponsors. After a few weeks, radio ads, and other marketing efforts, I noticed the list of names was still quite long. My new business was not going to be able to find sponsors for all of these children and I had visions of children’s faces experiencing disappointment. So I began soliciting help from parents from the Ogden Valley Montessori School where my son also attends. I felt like a vacuum salesman, but people were so kind, taking the names and picking one, two, even three Amanda Scheuerman, the owner of the school, offered her daughter Susannah’s services to solicit our neighbors in Wolf Creek. This led to Susannah and Molly Porter taking the names door to door as part of a project for girl scouts. The girls found sponsors in our neighbors and every child was finally able to be sponsored. I actually got to meet all of my neighbors as well. Parents from the Montessori school and neighbors and friends all brought boxes of items for the children. How kind of everyone to run out, days before the holidays, to buy for a child they will never even meet. 1 don’t quite know the best way to say thank you to everyone. But please know that your kindness and generosity is so greatly appreciated. And thank you to Amanda and Susannah Scheuerman, and to Linda and Molly Porter for taking the time to help these children. I had never even met Suzannah or Molly, but they didn’t hesitate to help me. Again, thank you so very much. I hope I have the chance to return your kindness someday.
