Show Mantians Discover A Ledge Of Epsom Salts Several weeks ago the Messenger announced the possibility of some great things in store for Manti, through the location of mining ground in. the near vicinity. Those purchasing location blanks for taking tak-ing up the ground made a statement state-ment that the ground in question promised something better than a gold mine for this city. At this writing there seems to be a great possibility of their hopes being realized. real-ized. The ledge located proves to be pure epsom salts, a drug which has in the past been imported almost exclusively from Germany. The ledge is a large one, about 13 feet thick and distinct outcroppings have been traced for about a mile. Analyses Anal-yses of the deposit show it to be 100 per cent pure, and the feature which seems to be of the greatest importance import-ance is that so far as is known, there is no other ledge of this character in the world. The supply thus far has been derived from water. There is in Britsh Columbia a ledge in which a trace has been found, but they have not found a deposit. Another very important consideration consider-ation is that the by-products to be derived, would be almost as valuable as the salts. Magnesium; the metallic metal-lic base of the magnesium light is obtained through the process oi handling the salts and is of itself a profitable production. The discoverers of the ledge are A. H. Anderson, Jr., Ezra Billings, Orson Billings, J. M. Anderson and Geo. Anderson. The find is in Manti Canyon and within a mile of the city limits. Manti Messenger. |
