Show BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham 'to City, Utah Thursday, January 20, 1977 ends Obituaries jj A ob Bryant Rulon Bess Bryant Rulon Bess, 70, of 466 North Fifth East, Brigham City, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1977 at his home of natural causes. He was born Oct. 8, 1906 at Salt Lake City, the son of John H. and Luella Moody Bess. He married Dorothy M. Phelps on may 16, 1936 in Salt Lake City. He was raised and educated in Granger, had owned and operated the Bess Service for 22 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Brigham Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Brigham City Nth ward. Survivors include his widow of Brigham City; three sons and a daughter, Noel R. Bess, Dale B. Bess, Michael J. Bess, all of Brigham City; Mrs. Larry (Judy) Vernon of Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren; four brothers, J. Victor Bess, Milton M. Bess, Juel F. Bess, all of Salt Lake City; Ellis L. Bess of Placentia, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Brigham City Nth ward chapel. and Bill Konieczki stand ready to pass out pancakes at the pancake breakfast slated Sunday at St. Henry's Catholic church. Chairman Burns said the breakfast will include sausage, pancakes, juice and coffee and will be served from 8 a.m. to p.m. under direction of the men of the church. All are invited to join in. Curtain time is 8 p.m. for the Agatha Christie mystery which is being presented arena style on the auditorium stage. Other performances were presented Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Tickets are priced at $1.50 for adults, $1.25 for students and $1 for children. One of the members of the cast is Becky Brown who plays the aging magistrate, Mrs. Boyle. Becky is a senior theatre arts student at Box Elder and is captain of the high school troupe. Shes also appeared in Meet Me in St. Louis and Cindere- field, top-rank- outstanding speaker. Jackie Kilgore also finished sixth in her leg session. In debate, Elwell and Scott Miller were third and Brett Nelson and Richard Starley finished fourth in their division. Both teams had only one loss in who plays the mysterious and elusive Miss Casewell, a prime murder suspect. The play tells of eight persons stranded at Mondswell Manor, a remote English lodge, in a blustry snow storm. One of these people is homocidal maniac. Shellie is a sophomore threa-tr- e student at Box Elder High school. She is active in theater at the high school, involved with the competition contest class, and most recently in Cinderella. Other students in the production are Doug Eskelsen, Mike Petersen, Lloyd Poelman, Kenny Phippen, Becky Brown, A girl reported to police Monday that a man exposed himself to her as she walked home from school about 5 p.m. The girl said a heavy-se- t man of medium height and about 30 pulled close to the curb as she walked near Fifth East and the tournament. The state bar tournament attracted about 180 leg students and 300 debate teams from 33 Utah high school. Nationally Ranked Poelman, Box Elder High school senior, has been nationally ranked among US forensic students. According to the National Forensics leagues official publication, The Rostrum, Poelman was listed as 37th in the nation and second in Utah. Recognition is based on outstanding overall effort in debate and individual speaking events. In three years at Box Elder, Poelman has won or contributed to 10 trophies, including championship titles from Portia Douglas tournament (extemp), Sherrie Freddie, and Larry Penrod. They are John Elwell, a standout at a tournament in Provo, and Lloyd Poelman who is listed among the Forensic students in the nation. John Elwell swept top honors in legislative forum to lead the Box Elder Debate team at the annual State Bar Association tournament at Provo. Elwell won trophies for outstanding chairman as well as Mabel O. Hadfield Also appearing in The Mousetrap is Shellie Williams debators A Mrs. Mabel Olive Smith Had85, of Riverside, died n Sunday, Jan. 16, 1977, at a nursing home of natural causes. She was born Oct. 7, 1891, in Draper, a daughter of Lauritz N. and Johanne K. Jensen Smith. She was married to Job Oliver Hadfield on June 10, 1914, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. She was reared and educated in Draper and received her normal certificate from the University of Utah and her extension service certificate in rural leadership from Utah State university. She worked as a teacher until 1915. She was an active member of the Belmont LDS ward and had served as YWMIA president, Primary president, member of the Relief Society presidency, Primary and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Bear River Stake Relief Society board for 17 years and had jserved as a member of the Box Elder County Fair board for many years. Surviving are her husband of Riverside; one son and three daughters, Ross S. Hadfield, Meridian, Idaho; Mrs. Douglas E. When Jessie Ham-so- n gave one of her famous pies to everyone who donated $5 or more to the Heritage theatre project. A total of $170 was raised. Jessie baked 35 pies in one day! People who remember those delicious pies have been calling from distant cities upon receiving word of the project. Jessie has even delivered pies in Salt Lake City and southern Idaho, a spokesman said. Jessie promises to continue her pie donations through the month of January and donors may call or Drauca her at Holmes at and order the pie of their choice from a selection of apple, cherry, berry, banana cream and coconut cream. They may pick up their pies at the theatre on Saturdays from 12 noon to 5 p.m. or, an effort will be made to deliver them where possible. The project is Jessies way of helping the Heritage Theatre project succeed.
