Show FROM HON. THOMAS KEARNS, Card Thanking The Tribune for Its Answer to Hoberts's Speech. Salt Lake City, Utah. March 20. 1905. To tho Editor of The Tribune: Having Hav-ing read with some Interest tho full report In your columns of tho speech of Hon. B. II. Roberts, delivered In the Mormon tabernacle at Provo, and your answer thereto, permit rno to occupy a few lines of space In your columns. First. I desire to express my grateful acknowledgements to Mr Roberts for the unintended but the complete support which he gave to the proposition advanced ad-vanced by mo concerning a governing body In tho church. It was my maintenance main-tenance that tho church was controlled by twenty-six men, whom I called a monarchy, with Joseph F. Smith as their king. They alone. I attacked; all the other members of the church I defended, and In general complimented for their virtues of sobriety. Industry and thrift. Mr. Roberts charges that I attacked tho church, thereby admitting that tho twppty-slx who constitute the monarchy are the church, nnd that tho mnss of tho people are not the church, but merely the servants of the church. Second, I thank The Trlbuno for Its prompt and unanswerable reply to Mr. Roberts. I was not consulted In tho matter, mat-ter, and know nothing of your reply until It appeared but It seems to me to bo a complete answer. Sincerely yours. THOMAS KEARNS. |
