Show IMPEACHING MORGAN. Seventeen Witnesses Testify Against Character of Legislator. DENVER. March 20. The Joint legislative legisla-tive bribery lnvcetlgatlng committee appointed ap-pointed to hear charges of attempted bribery preferred by Senator Rlchnrd W. Morgan against J. M. Herbert, vice-president and general manager of tho Colorado & Southern railroad, and Daniel Sullivan, postmaster of Cripple Creek, In connection connec-tion with. the gubernatorial contest, resumed re-sumed Its hearing today behind closed doors. Seventeen witnesses wero on the stand, most of them for the purpose of testifying In regard to the character of Senator Morgan. They declared, It Is said, hie reputation for honesty wns bad and that ho had been known to boast frequently fre-quently Hint he mado money In tho Legislature Legis-lature by selling his vote. Mr. Herbert and Mr. Sullivan refused to testify, becauso charges growing out of the sumo complaint are pending against them In the District court. . FoTmcr Gov. Alva Adams testified that Morgnn, of his own accord, called on him and pledged himself to vote In Adams's favor on tho contest question. This was before his sensational exposure In tho Joint assembly of the alllcgcd attempt at bribing him. |
