Show Christmas Tragedy Is Nearly Enacted A near tragedy was bavely averted in Gunnison by the presence of .mind of a well known man, whose name the publisher has been asked to withhold. Two young boys both less than 18, it is said, and anoth 'man, were involved in-volved in the near-tragedy. The names of the two boys and the other man will be withheld at present. The scheme, if it had gone through, would have resulted in at least one deatli and, perhaps three would have found a residence secure in some jail. Tho story, as told, is not in keeping with the Christmas spirit, and it follows: It was early Christmas morning and one man commandered two boys to ''rustle" some of the spirits of joy. The boys sought a man who, it hail been intimated, would supply the thirsty. The money was paid by the boys and the "stuff" delivered to i ho man with a "thirst." Seeking his room, this man and a friend, made an inspection, and one ventured a taMe. Fortunately, it was forthwith spit out and none went to his stomach. The stench, the taste and. the color gave evidence that all was not right and an investigation was started. Seeking the boys and on close cross-examination it was found out who had prepared the "stuff" and offered of-fered it for sale to innocent boys. P'uithcr investigation revealed the fact that the "bootlegger" had invested invest-ed in a pint of wood alcohol and later had reduced its power by additing sugar and water, and then sold it tn the kids to be delivered. While its I strength had been reduced it was i sufficiently strong to have killed the most powerful and poison-resisting man. But good luck was with the man with a thirst and only for the good judgement exercised the undertaker ws beaten out of a job.
