V " ' 1 V'-: 1 "M SILT LUKE GIRL IS FIRST PRIZE WINNER Miss Florence Christensen Is Given Leading Place at Art Institute. First prize honors at the Utah Art institute, which closed last night La Ogden, were -won by Miss Florence Christensen 's painting, ''Head of Spanish Span-ish Woman." Miss Christensen will receive re-ceive tho state prize of $300 and the painting will become the property of the state of L'tah. It will be added to the L'tah collection. Tho painting was i made about eighteen months ago, when Miss Chrisensen was studying in Spain. The model was a peasant woman residing resid-ing near Madrid. At the closo of the institute Miss Christensen said she intended to Epend 6ome time in the future painting Utah scenes. Other awards made by the judges follow: fol-low: "Aztec Houses," painted by Edwin Evans. ifjO: "Satanko," painted by Minerva Kohlhepp, f2o; "Street Scene." painted bv Joseph A. S. Everett. Ever-ett. $10. The special pri:e of $lo0, offered bv the city of Springville, will be awarded later. j Officers of the institute report the attendance was good throughout the exhibit. They assert they are well satisfied sat-isfied with tiie showing made. |
