Show SOME SLOUGHS ARE PlUHWEilT? Tiio.se Flowing From Creeks or Streams Are of This Nature. THIS IS DECISION OF STATE WARDEN CHAMBERS Citizens Will Now Take Steps to Properly Protect the Bass Pry. Frew W. Chambers, state fish and gamo warden, and Brigham Madsen, chief ' deputy, returned Tuesday morning mor-ning from Box Elder county where thoy had been called to settle disputes as to the proprietorship of certain sloughs existing in that part of the slate. It seems that numerous sloughs have been formed from springs, seepage seep-age and overflow, and in these sloughs largo number of bass are to ho found. At this time of the year, however, unless un-less the small fry are taken carc of. they become scattered over the watered portions of tho land and eventually perish. There has been much dispute among tho people of that section as to whether these sloughs were public or private property, and it was stated that if tho question were settled by tho proper prop-er authorities some action' would be taken toward protecting the bass fry and the propagation of thc lish. Mr. Chambers, after having investigated inves-tigated conditions there and giving the matter his thought and attention, decided that when the- sloughs are formed from creeks flowing rivers or from streams flowing into rivers or lakes, they are public property, but when they are formed from overflow, seepage or private springs, as is tho case of the sloughs in dispute in Box Elder county, they are private property. prop-erty. Mr. Chamber's decision in the matter mat-ter was received with glad acclaim in Box Elder, and citizens in that counfv who are interested in the matter., will from now on take stops toward the proper protection of the bass frv. |
