Show BUREAU LECTURE. On Tuesday evening last a very large audience assembled in the Tabernacle basement to listen to the second lecture of the Bureau series. The speaker was Elder George Barber, and his subject was "Seafaring Life." His discourse was very interesting and instructive. During it he explained the methods of ascertaining the location of a ship at sea, her speed, and of the depth of water she was sailing in. He also described the whale, some of its habits, and the method of taking it. The lecture was given in a conversational style, and held the close attention of the audience throughout, and at its close a vote of thanks was tendered to the lecturer. It was announced that the next lecture would be by Elder James A. Leishman upon the subject of "Ecclesiastical History, with more particular reference to the Reformers," and that it would be given on Wednesday evening next, instead of Tuesday evening, on account of Prof. (Professor) Hamill's entertainment. |
