Show Lion Delegates j Return From Convention Tired but extremely happy after a trip covering 4,250 miles, Mr. and Mrs- Roy Greenwood, Mr- and Mrs. Bsn Moffett pulled into American Fork last Saturday night after being be-ing away three weeks- They left here July 8th and travelsd through Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois to Chicago where they spent three days, one of which was spent a; the World's Fair and then proceeded on to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where for four days they attended the International convention conven-tion of Lions Clubs. Mr. Greenwood, Green-wood, a past president of the Lions club here was delegate to the convention con-vention and Mr. Moffett the alternate- They were treated royally at the convention, the report and were extended ex-tended every hospitality during their itay in that city. One of the afternoons after-noons they enjoyed a trip with the convention meim.rr. to Rodondo Beach and the next afternoon were taken on a trip to Mushegon Beach, 25 miles out of Grand Rapids, where all sorts of entertainment including a fish fry was provided. They returned to Chicago where another day was spent at the Fair. During their stay in Chicago they of course enjoyed a sightseeing trip around the city and one of the points of interest visited was the garage which figured so luridly in the newspaper headlines several years ago where two gangster factions staged one of the bloodiest slaughters slaugh-ters in the nation. One gang trapped another and lined them up against the wall and mowed them down with machine guns. They talked1 with one of the men who witnessed the affair and were shown the bullet riddled and blood stained wall. After leaving Chicago the second time they traveled north into Wisconsin Wis-consin and drove to South Dakota, where in Belle Fourch they pleasantly pleas-antly surprised our former townspeople towns-people and the close neighbors of Mr- and Mrs- Greenwood, Mr- and Mrs. George Meredith and daughter, daugh-ter, Clea, who recently moved to that city. They spent one "night in Belle Fourch then drove through the Black Hills of that state which i were particularly interesting. They stopped and saw the gigantic project proj-ect in which the heads of four of the nations presidents will foe carved out of rock, 800 feet up on the mountainsides- The head of Washington Washing-ton is well under way now. In Cheyenne, Wyoming, they attended at-tended the big rodeo celebration and then motored into Denver where they spent a day as guests of Dr. and Mrs. Brown Ingersoll (Loralne Boley) formerly of this city and were taken by them on a trip around the city. While in Colorado they also visited the grove of Buffalo Buf-falo Bill, famous western character, which is located on Lookout Mountain. Moun-tain. They returned home by way! of Vernal. In commenting on conditions gen-j lerally Mr- Greenwood stated they; found the drouth conditions varied! in the states through which theyi passed- One part of the state would j be in excellent condition and in the( other the crops were burned up- f Western Nebraska was extremely j dry but Eastern Nebraska, Iowa and j parts of Indiana and Illinois were, not so bad. Wisconsin is in goodi condition as well as parts of Minne-1 sota. South Dakota is hard hit by the drouth as is western Colorado. I . o I |
