Show . o Expert Discusses Health Problems Dr. Caroline Hedger of the Mc-Comick Mc-Comick Institute of Chicago, 111., addressed s.n assembly of women from the north end of Utah county last Friday afternoon in the stake tabernacle here. Health problems of the community was the theme of her discussion. Miss Alice Pederson, Home -Demonstration agent of Utah county was in charge of the meeting which is similar to a series being held thro'ighout several of the counties of the state, taking advantage of Dr. Hedger's visit in the west. The Farm Bureau, Extension service and cooperative co-operative organizations such as the Reliti Society, etc. are sponsoring these lectures. Dr. Hedger in x pi? in and practical manner which appealed to her listeners, listen-ers, discussed health problems of ; the community. "There is alsogether j too much sickness among people to- day", she stated "and too many people peo-ple are not living right." She talked straight from the shoulder to the women, telling them it was their duty to get their health to such a standard that they could give the service demanded in every family from a wife and mother to the fullest extent a.nd yet enjoy good health. She urged and stressed the necessity of a complete physical examination ex-amination a year, not one of those "stick out your tongue and you're O. K." kind, but a thorough check up annually, from head to foot, blood count, urine analysis, exray for dead teeth, metabolism test, etc. etc. Dr. Hedger said she was fully aware that health is neglected by thousands of persons not through chcice but through lack of finance. She humorously painted the physicians' physi-cians' side of the story, especially in this depression, with people needing and in many cases getting medical attention and little to pay with. This led up to the main purpose of the meeting, a discussion of the health insurance plan of which much more will be heard through the Extension Service of the U. -S. A. C. in the future. Under the plan, families by paying a small yearly sum to a physican would be entitled to full medical attention even to the extent of an operation and hospital costs. " A health committee is to be appointed ap-pointed in this city in the near future whose duty it will be to distribute dis-tribute literature to the people acquainting ac-quainting them with the plan and other information along the line of improved health. Mrs. Reva R. Maycock, of the State Extension Service, Logan, and Mrs. Iola Jensen, chairman of the State Farm Bureau Home and Community department, accompanied accom-panied Dr. Hedger to American Fork. Each spoke briefly. Ccunty Agent Lyman Rich also was present. ' |
