Show DEAR UNCLE SAM. We love thee still, dear Uncle Sam, Although you've proved unkind; We know thou art a kind good man With sympathy refined. We'll love thee still; through peace and war Thy rights we will defend; We'll sound thy fame in realms afar And always be thy friend. When we were young our name, you know, Was Utah of the west; We rent that name from Mexico, That here you might find rest. When foreign foes around thee push To bind thee if they can, Oh Utah then will make a rush To save dear Uncle Sam. We know that thou art growing old When snow falls on thy hair; Thy feelings too are somewhat cold To Deseret, thine heir. But that fair one will love thee still With freedom's holy theme; She will submit to supreme will And not of thee complain. The king supreme that made thee great, Is looking from above, To see the justice be each state - If they are ruled by love. You know dear friend, that fortune's wheel Now puzzles every man, Some may have woe, some may have zeal, But what for Uncle Sam? Smithfield, March 20th, 1882, Zimki |
