Show THAT COMMISSION. The entire population of the Territory are awaiting with deep interest, further developments in relation to the commission which is to exercise such unheard of powers over the Territory. With the exception of a small clique of the shyster class in Salt Lake, all classes of the people, "Mormon and non Mormon," hope that no member of the commission will be selected from Utah. If representative citizens of the Territory in whom its people have confidence could be selected, it would be far better to have the commission consist of such; but as there is no hope that President Arthur will appoint such men, it is the general desire and expectation that he will appoint men who will be strangers in the Territory when they arrive. A dispatch lately stated that President Arthur had declared his determination not to appoint any but lawyers of repute on the commission and that he would not appoint any person who applied for a place on it. It is to be hoped that he will adhere to this position. |
