Show oo CONFERENCE MAY FAIL OF RESULTS Washington, Aug. G Tho Pan-American Pan-American conference on the Mexican situation adjourned suddenly tonight with an announcement that it will meet at New York some time In the future to resume consideration of the problem. The conference broke up with every appearance of failure The Latin-American Latin-American diplomats emerged from the office of Secretary of State Lansing Lans-ing looking weary and worn. It was evident there had been sharp differences differ-ences of opinion. They were followed in a short time by Secretary Robert Lansing, and ho too wore a discouraged discour-aged expression, which Indicated that the long session had utterly failed to its purpose. He admitted, somewnat dejectedly, that no communication had been sent to the warring factions of Mexico as the result of the deliberations delib-erations of the conference. Unable to Agree. The point on which the conferees were unable to agree was the question ques-tion of the course to be taken in the event it Is found impossible to induce in-duce the leaders of the factions to agree to a peaceable settlement of their differences and to unite on a provisional president During the discussion dis-cussion of the advisability of the recognition rec-ognition of a provisional president such as Manuel Tagle and the establishment es-tablishment of an embargo on arms and ammunition for any faction that might oppose him, tho conferees found themselves compelled to take into consideration the military strength and announced intention of General Carranza. Considerable weight was given to the posibillty that Carranza might continue fighting fight-ing and that his opposition might be successful, In spite of the embargo The conferees then found themselves confronted with the question of what action should be taken to assist the provisional president under such circumstances. cir-cumstances. In general their view was that there is nothing essentially wrong in the settlement of the affairs af-fairs of a nation by revolution.
