Show NEGLECT 01 OF II GIST EVILS OF i IDF WORLD Taking for his text, "How shall wo escape, if we neglect so great salvation," salva-tion," in a sermon last night at tho tent, Washington avenue and Twenty-sixth Twenty-sixth street, Evangelist Booth said in part: "The sin of neglect is one of the most fearful sins of the human family. fam-ily. There are millions of people who aro going through lifo neglecting; drifting into their graves neglecting, drifting Into eternity neglecting; drifting into hell neglecting. "God was willing to give his only begotten son; heaven was willing to see him come, and Christ was willing will-ing to step down from the throne of God and be born in a manger, willing I to sacrifice the blessing and adora- f(-tn ff oil fVin nmrnnltr ., vn1 n n - A receive in its sted tho mocking, smiting, smit-ing, crowning and crucifying inorder that we might bo saved. "Before the Lord came in his first advent, God saw fit to speak to the inhabitants of the world by the mouth of prophets and angels. Those who received the admonition received the blessing of heaven, were saved from their sons, and will be saved in the kjngdom of God. Those who rejected the mercies of God in giving them the opportunity for salvation were punished severly. Under the Theocracy Theoc-racy sentenco against an evil work was executed speedily. Those who Wilfully refused to keep the commandments com-mandments of God were taken with out the camp and stoned. They were stoned for breaking any of the com- ( mands of God Now that being true, , we that have tho testimony of angels, ' prophets and Christ himself, how ' shall we escape, If wo neglect so ' great salvation? it is not necessary that a man get up In the church, and publicly declare de-clare himself to be an infidel; it is not necessary for him to openly blas-phemo blas-phemo the Son of God; it is not necessary nec-essary for him to get out In the street and publicly burn the word of God to be lost in the kingdom All that Is necessary for him to do to lose his soul is to neglect. "A man was handing out cards one time. On one side was the question, 'What shall I do to bo saved9' The answer was, 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt bo saved ' On the other side of the card was the question, 'What shall I do to be lost And the answer was, 'Nothing.' 'Noth-ing.' We need not do anything to be lost We are lost already. There is no other name given among men whereby wo may be saved save the Lord. Those who refuse to come to the Lord for help will be lost. "Years ago in Minneapolis, the leading lead-ing paper was the Minneapolis Tribune, Trib-une, published in a magnificent six-story six-story building, the finest newspaper building in the northwest There was one great defect in the building. The stirway went right around the elevator shaft. There broke out a fire In the shaft of the elevator, and It commenced to sweep up the shaft story by story, cutting off escape by the elevator and cutting off escape by the stairway as well. The elevator boy went up a number of times and saved many, and others escaped by the fire-escape. But away up in me sixth story thero was u man, a dispatcher dis-patcher for the Associated Press. He was urged to escape, but he refused to move. There ho sat by his Instrument Instru-ment telegraphing to all parts of the country that the building was on fire. Ho could havo gone out of the building by the fire escape, and crossed tho road to an instrument there, and could haye done just as well; but, like a typical newspaper man, he wanted to do something sensational, sen-sational, and so thero he sat telegraphing tele-graphing the pews. 'I am In the Tribune Trib-une building,' he telegraphed, 'in the sixth story and the building is on fire. The fire is now reached the second story; I am in the sixth.' In a little whilo he sent another message: mes-sage: 'The fire has now reached the third story.' Soon he telegraphed; 'The fire has no wreached tho fifth story, and I am in the sixth.' Then ho thought it was about time to loave. He went to tho fire escape, and to hla dismay the fire was at the sixth floor. Pie waq cut off. Ho went to the window, of tho building, and looking look-ing above he saw a rope that passed from the Trjbune building to tho building across the street Ho caught hold of the guy-rope and began to go hapd over hand to cross the chasm. The people down in the street, below looked up in breathless suspense, i When about half way across his atronctli fulloH him nnd Hnnn Un , went to death. All through mere unnecessary neglect ''Men and women, wo are in a ' burning building tonight. Soon the i old world wilL be burned by fjro. The old world Is certainly doomed. But ; thank God there is a way of escape, i and ono way only, In Christ Jesus. Now one knows how long1 that way will bo left open. But I beg of you not neglect It and then when it Is too i lato lay hold on some poor guy-rope i of human philosophy, and go a little way, and then lot go and plunge, not bIx stories down, but on and on and on through the awful unfathomable depths of tho gulf of eternal despair. Men and women, turn to Christ tonight! to-night! 'How shal we escape if we t neglect so great salvation.' . There will be .special pictures to , illustrate tho study tonight A , . no |
