Hontz, the man who surrendered himself him-self to Patrolman Carey and confessed to wrecking the Denver & Rio Grande . passenger train near Sprlngville last Monday, has a criminal record In Utah and served a. sentence at the Utah? state prison has been given the local authorities by Peter II Riley, city marshal at Greenriver, Utah. Marshal Riley says that he arrested nontz and an accomplice at Green-river Green-river two years ago and held them as suspects in the case of a woman who was murdered in Salt Lake. They were later released and robbed some D. & R. G. boxcars. Hontz's companion, compan-ion, known as Frank Rose, escaped, but Hontz was arrested, tried In Provo and discharged. The marshal says that while he was holding Rose and Hon:z ho .found Hontz's picture among thoso at the Utah state prison and also obtained one from the Nevaca authorities. Hontz told the marshal that thero were several rewards for him. but refused re-fused to say where and who offered the rewards. oo |
