He had been In" Jll health somo time but was not thought to bo dangerously sick until within the past two weeks, his trouble being located In hlsstomach. A short time ago Mr. Petty went to Salt Lake, spending some time with his-son Thomas in an effort to get relief from the medical men of that city but lie returned to Richmond in no bcttbr shape, finally passing away as stated above. . ' Mr. Petty was truly a pioneer Of Richmond having located tho town In the year 1859, in conjunction with Prcs. Wm. Lewis and others, and he had been a continuous resident evf I since. Ills life In Richmond was rich and Tull and it Is said of hhn that no man had been of greater service In the material, spiritual and moral growth of tho city. Tho citizens of Richmond Rich-mond honored him with positions of trust and reposed perfect confidence in his wisdom and intentions. -, Blographlcally Mr. Petty was aged i 02 years and 11 months, being born,iii Nashville, Tenn., on Sept. 22, 1841. Ills parents moved to Iowa and thence to Utah in 1850, settling lit . Fort Harrlman. He arrived in Rlch-, Rlch-, mond In '59 as stated above and for forty-five years was ever active op tho side of right and thoirty's wellfahk Ho leaves behind him a family of 0 children, a wife, 10 grand-children, a brother and five sisters. Ills children child-ren are Mrs. A. S. Hendricks and Angus, Lewis and Christobcl Petty, of Richmond, W. T. Petty and Mrs. J. S. Hendricks of this city, Thos. Petty and Mrs.Jano Apdrus, of Salt Lake City. The brother Lewis T. Petty, Is at Oxford, Idaho. Mrs. W. II. Lewis, of Lewlston, Margaret Davis of Roxburg, Mrs. Caroline Llndlcy , of Spanish Fork, Mrs. Albin Bcckstcad, of West Jordan and Mrs. John Homer, of Trenton, are his sisters. The funeral service was held In the Richmond meeting house yesterday morning at 11 o'clock. In the passing of Robert Thomas Petty, Richmond citizens recognlzo the loss of ono who lias been cry dear and highly respected for his sterling ster-ling worth. Ho was a good man and tho boreft ones have the sincere sympathy sym-pathy of all who knew him or them. |
