Explain: Yes, more information could be made available to the public simply through better press coverage of mass meetings and future elections The County Clerk is responsible for this information The state law requires that this information be posted m five spots within a voting district or be in a newspaper Davis Coumv is so geographical Iv spread that one newspaper is not enough to inform voters There are three wide coverage papers availa hie Although the County Clerk is not responsible for encouraging volt i registration, it is the duty of that of fiie to register voters and inform voters of mass meetings and voting locations This ts not being performed adequately, esppcially for new residents in the county What do you feel fere your qualifications for this office? 1 Experience setting up computer controlled inventory systems 2. Inventory accounting including private and federal equipment capi tai assets, and expendible items 3. University of Utah Business and Political Science graduate 4 Active in civic areas- - volunteer fireman, emergency mediral train mg, Farmington City Planning Com mission Board member, chairman historical buildings committee 5 Public involvement with manv county residents through job and (iv ic ties Capable of injecting new idtas and enthusiasm into the office of Davis ounty Clerk 6 What do you see as important issues in your campaign? Better media exposure of times and lo ations of elections, and voter registration Letting all residents know when and where to vote1 Maintaining governmental services in this crucial period of rapid growth Two party representation in our counv government Rcdnsy Welker Republican Could more information be made available to the public regarding registration and future elections? Explain am open for any suggestions because we have had news articles in the local papers, the Salt Lake County Clerk has had news articles in the Salt Lake papers and the League of Women Voters have also had articles m the newspapers The appointment of registration assistants was supposed to get more citizens registered but this didn't prove to be very successful Then came the registration by mail, which was quite successful the first year, but then the banks and post offices and city offices indicated that they didn t want to be bothered with the fin ms in their offices I believe the registration bv mail could prove to be quite successful if we could get the cooperation of the banks, post offices and other public buildings which could make the applications available after regular working hours and weekends What do you feel are your qualifications for this office? feel that I am qualified for the Lounty Clerk because of my prior management training and my experience of 11 years in the County Clerk Auditors Office 8 of those years as your County Clerk Auditor The office of Clerk Auditor will be divided on Jan 1 and I chose to run for your County Clerk because the Clerk has more direct contact with the public of conducting I enjoy the challenge the elections and trying to make I improvements each election year also enjoy serving the district courts, the County Commissioners and most of all the citizens of Davis County I am dedicated to giving the best possible service to all citizens What do you see as important is- sues in your campaign? I am not aware of any particular issue for my campaign other than my pledge to continue to serve the Commissioners by taking minutes of Commission Meetings, making entries of all resolutions, ordinances, etc. and preserving those records, also, recording the minutes of the District Court and filing all court papers pertaining to civil, criminal and probate matters and the preservation of those papers The election orocess has a few rough edges but we are attempting to remedy this so our election will be conducted in an efficient manner I have strived to give courteous and efficient service to the public although the volume of services which pass through the Clerks Office every day has increased tremendously What will he your responsibilities and duties as County Recorder? As to mv background and qualilications, I have worked for a Mile company, in Davis County, for a I I ; V put doubly difficult Why are you running I will work hard diligently, and constantly to fulfill the duties of the office, to ton tinue the friendly efficient service which we have had, and if thpre is any room for improvement, that improvement will be made What do you feel are your qualifications for this office? I started working in 1957 for the title company, and acquired the background and knowledge which I now feel makes me the most qualified candidate for this office In 1957, there were about 20 documents a day recorded and now there are from 150 to 240, Warranty Deeds, Quit Claim Deeds, Mortgages, Trust Deeds, Easements, Uniform Real Estate Construct , all of these have to be processed by the Recorder's Office, indexed, abstracted micro-filmephotostatted, and entered in a daily book My experience in the title business has given me the background needed to process these instruments What do you see as important Issues In your campaign? I have worked for a title company, in Davis County, for a period of 20 and that time have years, during been intimately acquainted with the workings in the Recorder's Office, the need for complete detailed ac curacy, and particularly the importance that the records in that office play in our daily lives and investments Purchasing a residence, borrowing money on a residence or business property, is a complicated procedure, and for most of us is the biggest nfvestment which any one of us will make in a life time Without accurate records in the Recorder's Office, these procedures would be doubly difficult CW1 W(W mm l() tfcsa iff mM && i ili u Am WW Auditor Haven Burningham Democrat What do you feel are your qualifications for this office? The office of auditor is more than an accountant position or auditing the accounts of those offices responsible to the county commissioners. It is a and position of leadershipwill funcmanagement The auditor tion as the corporate financial manager for the county, advising the commissioners on financial matters, insuring proper competitive bidding on all county contracts, etc. My qualifications to fulfill these responsibilities are based upon 30 years of military leadership, two years of recent employment in county government and my educational background Some of my military experience includes planning and execution of programs and policies, office management of funds and personnel, inputs to national military budgets as well as local office and departmental budgeting, served on National and International committees, during 14 years in Air Force headquarters I served as an Air Staff Officer, .
