Show MINING'S MONUMENT. Western America is the mining industry's in-dustry's monument. Discovery of precious metals started start-ed the great trek toward the Pacific. When the gold rush was over, the mining industry remained to be a great developer of western states. It provided a livelihood for thousands of families, spent billions of dollars for supplies and contributed a major part of the cost of government. The mines may be running at slow speed now, but they will speed up again. Hardly a human occupation would be possible without metals. And at this time, it behooves every state to aid, in every way, this great industry. |
