Logan finished in 2nd place, leaving Skyview in 3rd place in the division. The top six teams in both Division B South and Division B North were placed in the 2007 State Lacrosse Championship Tournament. The teams were paired according to their season record. Another 1,049 thousand runners participated in the half-marathon. These participants started at the halfway point, which was near the Eden Park. Another way for runners to enjoy the marathon course, without having to pound the pavement for all 26.2 miles, was to run in a relay team. One hundred ten relay teams participated in this year’s event. Also held was a 5K run starting in Ogden at the mouth of the canyon, and a Kids K run for children. In addition to all the local athletes that participated, many community members volunteered their services at aide stations all along the route, or simply showed up to cheer the runners on. On the morning of May 19, thousands of runners had the right of way on many of the Valley’s roads. In the Quarter final round, which was held Saturday, May 12, Weber played Timpanogas High School, which had defeated Mt. Crest High School 16-0, advancing them into the State playoffs. On Saturday, May 12, Weber High Lacrosse defeated Timpanogas 15-9 to advance to the State Semi-Finals. The State Semi-Finals were held Wednesday, May 16 at Skyview’s High School Stadium in Logan. Weber played Timpview High School, #2 seed from Division B South in the Semi-Final game. Weber suffered a tough loss with a final score of 11-9. Team leaders commented, “Weber seemed to struggle to get into their usual rhythm. Finally, in the fourth quarter, Weber seemed to find some rhythm, but ran out of time, unable to make the comeback. A tough Timpview team and penalties were too much to overcome.” Four members of Weber’s lacrosse team were recently chosen to the UHSLL All-State Team—a highly unusual accomplishment since it is rare for several players from a single team to be singled out for All-State. Of these four players, three are from Ogden Valley. At Weber High, many of the top players on the lacrosse team are from Ogden Valley. Additional Valley players on Weber’s Varsity team include Colton Eyres, Jacob McKay, Tyrel Parkinson, and Josh Naumu. There are also several players on the Junior Varsity team. Lacrosse is a “club” sport at Weber High, meaning they do not receive the same support as traditional high school sports programs. Students, parents, and local companies finance and drive the program at each individual high school. The national website www.laxpower. Spencer Bowen in game against Timpview. com ranked Weber High’s team ninth overall for Utah High School Lacrosse teams for both Divisions A and B. This is the highest ranking for any Division B team in the state—an accomplishment since Division B teams are the newest and, usually, most inexperienced within the state. Eccles Announces New Art Exhibit The Eccles Community Art Center will be displaying the paintings of Doug Braithwaite of Sunset, and the paintings of Sue Valentine of Salt Lake City. An artists reception is planned for the evening of the First Friday Stroll on Friday, June 1 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The work will remain on exhibit through June 30. Doug Braithwaite enjoys painting outdoors as well as painting in his studio. As a landscape painter he at first believed that it would be hard to continue to paint in a place where he had lived and worked all his life. But Doug found that what used to seem to be a limited resource is, in fact, quite limitless. The more he paints the more option for paintings he sees, even in working in the same places over and over again he has found infinite possibilities. Braithwaite says of his painting, “The light changes throughout the day as well as throughout the year and offers endless changes in moods and personality. I find myself reexamining many things that I have worked already, or passed by in times past, and discover that there is something there that I didn’t see or maybe was not capable of expressing before. I find it very interesting to try to understand what it is about a place that causes me to stop and paint. For the most part, I stop because I like what I am looking at, or there is a certain color that jumps out at me. I also believe there is certain geometry and/or rhythm that may be some of the underlying influences. As I strive to move forward in my work, I try to understand and express these things. I am constantly Horse property in Liberty. 1.15 acres w/barn & shed. She enjoys painting with watercolor, oil, pastel, and acrylics. She enjoys experimenting with technique, painting materials, subjects, and using line, texture, and color in hopes that the paper absorbs the feeling of her painting experience. Art is a vital part of Sue’s life, she hopes that she can share the joy of art with the viewer. Her work for the Carriage House Gallery will include a number of dogs in play, and will consist of mostly acrylic works. Please visit the exhibits at the Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Closed Sundays and major holidays.
