Show Volume XIV Issue XVI The Ogden Valley news Page 11 June 1, 2007 Opera Visits Ogden Valley Group from Mrs. Chambers’ second grade opera, The Aliens and the Banana Rescue. Cast from Mrs. Anderson’s first grade class, who wrote and produced, “Reading Party Great Mess Opera.” The audience was able to learn from the opera that it’s not fun to tease others if your actions hurt or scare others. Also, if teasing does hurt someone else, or creates a mess, you need to help clean it up and say you’re sorry. All of the operas - the music, scenery, and story lines - were created by the Valley students through a grant from the Logan, Utah’s Utah Festival Opera Company, which has developed the Opera by Children program--an Educational Outreach Program directed by artist Michael Ballam. Unfortunately, the hungry adventurers become lost. The situation becomes more desperate when it begins to rain and they lose the key needed to return home. These children also learn the value of perseverance and never giving up. The sing, “We’re not giving up, don’t give up!” After the animals who live in the rain forest and some construction workers offer their help, the troubled group also learn the value of partnering and working with others when trying to solve a problem. Mrs. Truett’s first grade class, and cast from the “Yellowstone Olympic Opera.” In this fanciful opera, several puppies from the wild are hurt and stuck, and need help. Singing, the children (a variety of animals) ask, “What should we do, do, do?” They finally come to learn that they should all work together. By doing so, they learn they can accomplish anything, “We can do it! It may be hard, it may take time, but we can do it!” Remember, “Work together, never give up, and it’s o.k. to ask for help.” |
