Show Lakeside Review, October 9, 1980, Page 5A Hearing in Slaying Expected to Close FARMINGTON The adult cer- tification hearing of John P. Miller Jr., 15, accused of killing a Clinton girl, was expected to draw to a close . Wednesday afternoon in 1st District Juvenile Court. An immediate decision on whether to certify him as an adult was not anticipated, however. Miller, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Miller, 552 W. 1250 N., Clinton, is charged with first degree murder, kidnapping and forcible sexual abuse in connection with the death of Anne Hoskisson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hoskisson, 1182 N. 600 W., Clinton, The purpose of the hearing, which began Sept. 24, was to determine whether Miller should be tried as an adult or as a juvenile. The prosecution wants the accused to stand trial as an adult because of the gravity of the crime and the fact that, if convicted as a juvenile, Miller must be ' released from custody by age 21. Defense attorney Tom Jones tried to show that Millers safety would be in jeopardy if he were convicted as an adult and placed in the Utah State Prison. , Dr. Breck Lebegue, medical director of Utah State Hospital, was expected to testify Wednesday that Miller should Kiwanis Leader Installed In installation CLEARFIELD ceremonies in Eden, Byron Liljenquist was handed the gavel of the Kiwanis Club of Clearfield by outgoing President Raymond Adams. not be certified to stand trial as an adult.
